Obverse description Central shield with flat top bearing the arms of the Archbishopric of Riga: a triangular composition with trees, executed in a Gothic heraldic style typical of Baltic medieval coinage. The shield is enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The surrounding circumferential legend, interrupted by the date 1535, reads in abbreviated Latin. The die work is characteristic of mid-16th century hammered billon coinage from the Livonian region.
