Obverse description Central shield of Koknese (Kokenhusen) bearing a triangular charge above stylized trees, the shield top rendered smooth without a decorative border. The abbreviated date 39 appears within the surrounding Latin legend. The entire design is struck in the characteristic crude hammered style of mid-16th century Livonian billon coinage, with irregular flan edges and variable relief.

Reverse description A patriarchal cross and archiepiscopal crosier crossed in saltire, centrally placed within the field, the arms of the cross rendered with regular staffs without ornamental terminals. The design is enclosed by a circular Latin legend denoting the ecclesiastical authority of the Church of Riga. The hammered strike displays typical surface irregularities consistent with mid-16th century Livonian billon schillings.
