| Beschrijving voorzijde | Central field bears the archiepiscopal arms of Riga within a beaded inner circle: a large Gothic letter 'A' (for Archbishop) overlaid with a crozier and sword crossed in saltire, set upon a shield. The date 1535 appears divided within the circumscribed legend. The surrounding circular legend reads MO · ARCH · P · RIGEN · 1535, denoting the monetary authority of the Archbishop of Riga, struck in a crude hammered style typical of Baltic billon issues of the period. |

Thomas Schöning served as Archbishop of Riga during one of the most turbulent decades in Livonian ecclesiastical history, as Lutheran reforms dismantled Catholic institutional authority across the region. The Archbishopric's minting rights were increasingly contested, and issues from this period reflect a church fighting to maintain temporal relevance alongside its crumbling spiritual monopoly.
The Haljak II#763b designation places this among the more precisely documented varieties of Schöning's schilling coinage — the "pointy top" cross distinction is a die-specific classification, not decorative whimsy.
