Palatinate-Mosbach-Neumarkt was a short-lived partition of the Rhenish Palatinate, created in 1448 when Elector Ludwig IV divided his territories among his brothers. Otto II ruled the Mosbach-Neumarkt portion from 1461 until his death in 1499, after which the territory reverted to the main Palatinate line — extinguishing a branch that had lasted barely two generations. The Schilling issues of this appanage principality are scarce precisely because the mint operated under severe jurisdictional and economic constraints, with output intermittent across the three-decade window this coin's dating reflects.
