Obverse description Central shield with a smooth, curved top bearing the cross of the Livonian Order, set within a beaded inner circle. The shield divides the surrounding Latin legend into four sections, one between each arm of the cross motif framing the escutcheon. The legend, rendered in Gothic lettering, records the name and title of Master Heinrich von Galen. The overall style is characteristic of late-medieval hammered billon coinage of the Baltic region.
