正面描述 Central quartered shield bearing the four-fold arms of the Bishopric of Würzburg, displayed within a beaded inner circle. The heraldic quarters are executed in the late Gothic hammered style characteristic of mid-fifteenth-century German ecclesiastical coinage. A circular Gothic legend in uncial lettering surrounds the shield, punctuated by a floral ornament at the base of the inscription.

附加信息

Gottfried IV Schenk von Limpurg held the see of Würzburg from 1443 until his death in 1455, a episcopate defined largely by his efforts to consolidate territorial authority against the encroachments of neighboring secular lords. The schilling issues of his final years reflect a broader mid-fifteenth century trend among Franconian ecclesiastical mints toward standardizing small silver denominations to compete with the proliferating coinage of the imperial cities.

The Ehwald reference places this among a small documented group, and surviving examples in collectible condition are infrequently encountered at auction.
