Obverse description The Hamburg city arms, depicted as a three-towered castle gateway with a central arched portcullis and flanking circular openings, occupies the centre of the field in high relief. The castle is rendered with fine architectural detail, including rusticated stonework and ball finials atop the outer towers. Below the arms, the mintmaster's initials H.S.K. appear in bold serif lettering, serving as the sole legend on this face. The design is unframed, set against a plain, polished field characteristic of a pattern or proof striking.
