Obverse description Central field displays the date in two-digit form within a beaded inner circle, surmounted by a small cross above the numerals. A crowned lion passant, the arms of Sweden, occupies the upper portion of the inner circle. The surrounding circular legend in Latin reads ERIC · XIIII · D · G · R · followed by abbreviated regal titles, separated by pellet stops. The coin is struck on an irregular flan typical of hammered billon coinage of the period, with the legend partially weak at the margins due to the striking technique.

Reverse description Central field features a large ornate crown of late medieval form, rendered with considerable detail, occupying most of the inner circle defined by a beaded border. The legend MO · NOVA · REVAL · in Latin capital letters runs around the periphery, separated by pellet stops, identifying this as the new coinage of Reval. The flan is irregularly shaped and the strike is characteristic of mid-sixteenth century hammered municipal coinage, with areas of weakness at the edges. The overall style reflects the influence of Baltic civic minting conventions of the period.
