Conrad William of Wertnau served as suffragan bishop of Würzburg rather than as the ruling prince-bishop, which makes his appearance as issuing authority on coinage an administrative curiosity. The Bishopric of Würzburg held the right to mint under its prince-bishops, and 1683 fell under the reign of Peter Philipp von Dernbach — meaning this schilling exists in a peculiar jurisdictional gap that specialists have never fully resolved to consensus.
