Beschrijving voorzijde Central field displays the crowned arms of Schleswig-Holstein-Gottorp — a shield bearing the two lions of Schleswig and the nettle-leaf of Holstein — surrounded by a beaded inner circle. The ducal crown surmounts the shield. The circumferential legend in Latin reads CHRIST:ALB:D:G.H.N.D.S., abbreviating the titulature of Duke Christian Albert of Schleswig-Holstein-Gottorp. The overall style is characteristic of late 17th-century North German heraldic coinage.

Aanvullende informatie

Christian Albert's tenure as Duke of Schleswig-Holstein-Gottorp was defined by his alignment with Sweden against Danish ambitions — an alliance that cost him his duchy entirely between 1675 and 1679, when Danish forces occupied the Gottorp territories following the Battle of Lund. This schilling was struck just two years after his restoration, brokered through Swedish pressure and the Treaty of Fontainebleau. The mint was effectively resuming operations after a four-year interruption.

Gottorp schillings of this period circulated alongside Danish issues in a monetary environment that was never fully resolved until the duchy's final absorption in 1773.
