Obverse lettering MONE. NOV. ROSTOCK
Reverse description A Gothic minuscule 'r', the initial of Rostock, is centrally placed within an ornate rose bloom, the whole device superimposed upon a symmetrical floral cross whose four arms extend to the inner circle. The petal and foliate elements of the cross fill the quarters of the field, creating a decorative quartered composition typical of northern German Schilling coinage. The surrounding legend SIT. NOM. DNI. BND. — an abbreviation of the devotional phrase Sit Nomen Domini Benedictum ('Blessed be the Name of the Lord') — runs continuously within the outer border.
