Reverse description Three heraldic shields arranged in a trefoil composition dominate the central field: at the top the chequered arms of Ulm, at lower left the arms of the Holy Roman Empire, and at lower right a shield bearing a lion. Small trefoil or quatrefoil floral ornaments are placed between the shields in the interstices, serving as decorative separators. A Gothic uncial legend encircles the design within a beaded border, referencing the city's civic authority. The workmanship is consistent with south German municipal coinage of the early sixteenth century.
