| Obverse description | The city arms of Ulm — a crenellated gate tower — displayed at center within a beaded quatrefoil frame. The four Gothic uncial letters V, L, M, and A are disposed in the four lobes of the quatrefoil, serving as an abbreviated civic legend. A beaded inner border separates the central device from the surrounding Gothic uncial legend in the outer field. The overall composition is characteristic of late medieval southern German civic coinage, with strong, deeply struck relief on the shield device. |
