Bartholomäus Savijerwe served as Bishop of Dorpat from 1441 to 1459, a tenure marked by persistent conflict with the Livonian Order over jurisdictional authority in the region. The Scherf — the smallest denomination in local circulation — was struck in billon of notably poor silver content, a reflection of chronic monetary degradation across the Livonian mints during the mid-fifteenth century rather than any single debasement decree.
Surviving examples are rarely found outside Baltic collections. Haljak's corpus remains the primary reference for attribution.
