| Obverse description | Central device depicts the Hamburg city arms: a white castle with three towers set upon a stylized base, rendered in low relief characteristic of hammered coinage. The castle motif, the traditional heraldic symbol of the Free City of Hamburg, occupies the majority of the flan. The strike is typical of late 16th-century German municipal copper coinage, with an irregular, slightly uneven flan and no surrounding legend. |
