Obverse description The civic arms of Lübeck — a crowned double-headed eagle or stylized shield device — occupy the central field, rendered in a boldly engraved, somewhat crude hammered style characteristic of minor copper coinage of the period. The date 1570 is inscribed in an arc above the arms, the numerals arranged in a shallow curve following the coin's rounded flan. The overall design is enclosed within an irregular, beaded or plain border. The arms display a distinctive crosshatched or diaper-patterned lower section surmounted by a small pellet or boss, consistent with the traditional Lübeck civic emblem as used on local small denominations.
