Thailand's tin coinage of 1942 was a direct consequence of wartime metal shortages. With Japanese occupation effectively redirecting strategic metals, the government fell back on tin — one of the few materials Thailand had in domestic abundance — for its lowest denomination. These pieces circulated hard during the occupation years and survivors in clean condition are genuinely scarce.
