The satang denominations saw drastically reduced mintage in the 2000s as Thailand's retail economy effectively abandoned sub-baht coinage — merchants routinely rounded transactions to the nearest baht. These pieces were struck largely to satisfy legal tender obligations and vending machine calibration requirements, not because anyone actually spent them. Most entered and exited bank vaults without ever touching a pocket.
