| Beschrijving voorzijde | A detailed depiction of the 18th-century Dutch three-masted ship-of-the-line ZrMs Kortenaer occupies the central field, shown broadside with full rigging and gun ports visible along the hull. The vessel is rendered in fine relief against a plain field, with the ship's name 'ZR.MS.KORTENAER' inscribed in the exergue beneath. A decorative rope border encircles the design, within which a continuous Latin legend runs around the full periphery commemorating the 150th anniversary of the Royal Naval Institute. |

| Aanvullende informatie |
The Koninklijk Instituut voor de Marine, founded in 1829 at Den Helder, has issued tokens and medals tied to institutional life rather than state monetary authority. This brass piece almost certainly functioned as a canteen or mess token — the "saluut" denomination places it firmly in that tradition of closed-economy scrip used within Dutch naval establishments, where controlling alcohol and food distribution through non-currency tokens was standard administrative practice well into the late twentieth century.
