Struck in 1909 as Siam was actively modernizing its monetary system under pressure from British colonial neighbors, this pattern salung was part of Chulalongkorn's broader currency reform push that had already introduced decimalized coinage earlier in his reign. Patterns from this period were produced in very small numbers for official approval and rarely escaped the treasury.
