| Beschrijving voorzijde | The obverse presents the characteristic koban layout across a hammered gold oval flan with a finely textured surface produced by folding and working. A kiri (paulownia) seal in a fan-shaped cartouche is stamped at the upper field, with a second matching kiri seal in a fan-shaped cartouche at the lower field. A vertical rectangular cartouche at the upper center bears the denomination inscription in grass-script Chinese characters (壹两, 'One Ryō'), while a second rectangular cartouche in the lower center carries the name and kаō (cursive monogram signature) of the mint official Mitsutsugu (光次) in the same script. The overall composition is symmetrical and reflects the standardized aesthetic of Edo-period gold coinage. |
