| Beschrijving voorzijde | Central field displays the crowned royal shield of Scotland bearing the rampant lion within a tressure flory-counterflory, surmounted by a large arched and jewelled crown with prominent fleur-de-lis finial. The shield is rendered in bold hammered relief characteristic of mid-sixteenth-century Scottish coinage. An inner beaded border frames the central device, with the circumferential Latin legend reading clockwise within an outer beaded border. The coin's flan is broad and irregular, consistent with hand-hammered production at the Edinburgh Mint. |
