| Beschrijving voorzijde | Central field displays the crowned royal arms of Scotland — a shield bearing the rampant lion — surmounted by an elaborate crown with fleurs-de-lis and crosses. A thistle plant flanks the shield on each side, serving as the national emblem of Scotland. The entire central device is enclosed within a beaded inner circle, with the peripheral Latin legend reading outward from the field. This is a notable 'names reversed' variety of the fourth period coinage of Mary Queen of Scots and Henry Lord Darnley, in which Henry's name precedes Mary's in the obverse legend. |
