Reverse description The reverse displays an elaborate floreate cross pattée at centre, with a small sun at its heart and arms extending to a tressure of eight arcs, each lobe adorned with alternating fleurs-de-lis and crowns in high relief. The overall composition creates a radiant, sunburst-like effect with lions and fleurs-de-lis filling the inner spandrels. The design is contained within a beaded inner circle. The surrounding legend, in Gothic uncial lettering, reads: IhC' · AVT' · TRAnSIEnS · PER · mEDIVm · ILLORVm : I · BAT (But Jesus passing through their midst went on His way), a Christological motto common to English gold ryals of the period.
