Indonesia's early republican currency was issued under severe practical constraints — the new government lacked established printing infrastructure, and note production in the early-to-mid 1950s was split between domestic facilities and foreign contractors depending on denomination and series. The 1 Rupiah P#72 falls within a transitional period when the Republic was consolidating its monetary apparatus following the formal transfer of sovereignty from the Dutch in late 1949.
The print date of 30 April 1945 recorded in catalog data almost certainly reflects a plate or design registration date rather than actual production — the Republic of Indonesia did not exist in any recognized form on that date, as independence was proclaimed on 17 August 1945.
