Aanvullende informatie

Italian Somaliland maintained a separate colonial coinage system rather than circulating standard Italian lire, a practical concession to the existing rupee-based commerce along the Indian Ocean littoral. The rupia denomination was calibrated to the Indian rupee to ease trade with merchants operating across the Horn of Africa and the Arabian coast.

KM#6 was struck at the Rome mint across an eleven-year span that included Italy's disastrous 1915–1918 campaign on the Isonzo front — a period when silver allocation for colonial coinage was hardly a budgetary priority. Production continuity across those war years was irregular at best.
