| Beschrijving keerzijde | Three horizontal registers of Arabic calligraphic legend filling the coin's field, separated by ruled lines; the central register carries the principal royal and religious inscription, with secondary legends above and below. Decorative scrollwork or floral motifs appear at the margins. The coin exhibits the characteristic irregular flan and hand-struck style typical of late 18th-century Durrani hammered silver coinage, with a plain rim. |

Zaman Shah's tenure was defined by near-constant fratricidal conflict. Blinded and deposed by his brother Mahmud in 1801, he had spent the preceding years fighting off multiple challenges to the Durrani throne while simultaneously drawing alarm from both the British East India Company and Napoleon, who briefly considered him a potential vector for a Franco-Persian strike at India. The Herat mint operated under these pressures, producing rupees for a ruler whose political hold was fragmenting even as the dies were cut.
