Issued to mark the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II, this coin is one of a series of commemorative pieces released by smaller island-nation mints increasingly contracting with private minting houses to produce collector-targeted gold-plated issues. The Seychelles had no meaningful military role in the conflict, making the commemorative framing somewhat arm's-length — the islands were a British Crown Colony at the time, and the war's effects were felt primarily through trade disruption and garrison costs rather than direct combat.
