Taimur Shah Durrani, who moved the Afghan capital from Kandahar to Kabul in 1776, administered a decentralized empire that relied heavily on regional mints to sustain coinage — Herat being among the most productive. The .2 variety designation under KM#383 distinguishes Herat-struck pieces from those of other mints in the series, primarily through mint name placement and calligraphic style in the die work. Taimur's reign saw persistent pressure from both internal tribal rivalry and Qajar Iran to the west, and Herat sat directly on that fault line.
