Obverse description Hammered silver flan bearing bold Nasta'liq calligraphy arranged within a rectangular cartouche defined by ruled lines. The legend reads the emperor's name and title, 'Shah Jahan', in the upper register, with the mint name 'Qandahar' appearing in the lower register. A regnal year inscription is present in the exergual area below the cartouche. The lettering is deeply struck and assertive in style, characteristic of Mughal imperial coinage of the Shahjahanabad period, with the field showing the typical irregular texture of a hand-struck planchet.
