Shah Jahan's reign represents the fiscal peak of Mughal silver coinage — the empire's revenues from Bengal alone, channeled through the Jahangirnagar mint (present-day Dhaka), funded construction campaigns that included Agra's most ambitious architectural projects. Jahangirnagar was renamed from Dhaka in honor of his father Jahangir, and the mint there operated continuously through Shah Jahan's entire reign before Aurangzeb's succession closed that particular administrative chapter.
KM#235.11 distinguishes this piece by mint — Jahangirnagar issues are among the more recoverable of Shah Jahan's provincial rupees, Bengal's trade volume having kept the mint productive across all regnal years.
