Bhakkar, a fortified island-city in the Indus River, served as one of the Mughal Empire's most strategically important mints precisely because its geography made it nearly impregnable. Shah Jahan's early regnal years at this mint coincide with his consolidation of power following a prolonged rebellion against his own father Jahangir — a revolt that had already cost him control of several provinces and forced him into years of military exile before he finally ascended the throne in 1628.
The Bhakkar mint operated under tight administrative oversight given its position on a primary northwestern trade and military corridor.
