| Obverse description | Central field dominated by a trishul (trident), a distinctly Hindu Maratha symbol, superimposed over bold Nastaliq-style Arabic calligraphy. The frozen Hijri date ۱۲۲۲ (AH 1222) appears prominently within the legend, a characteristic convention of Peshwa-era coinage whereby the AH date was fixed regardless of actual year of issue. The design follows the Mughal rupee format adapted by the Marathas, with flowing script filling the flan and a decorative foliate border element visible at the upper field. |
