Obverse description Centrally divided into three horizontal registers by raised linear borders, each containing lines of Persian nastaliq script. The obverse bears the imperial Mughal regnal legend of Shah Alam II in four lines across the field, reading: 'Sikka zad bar haft kishwar / Saya-e fazl-e Allah / Hami-e din-e Muhammad / Shah Alam Badshah' (He who struck coins over the seven climes / Shadow of the grace of God / Protector of the faith of Muhammad / Shah Alam, Emperor). Decorative floral ornaments and rosettes punctuate the field between registers, rendered in the characteristic Farrukhabad mint style.
