正面描述 The obverse features the Sri Lanka national emblem centered in the field, depicting the Sinhala lion passant holding a sword in its right forepaw, set within a beaded inner circle surrounded by a decorative ring of stylized petals and an outer wreath of lotus blossoms and leaves. The Dhamma Chakra (eight-spoked wheel) appears at the top of the device, flanked by a bo-leaf on each side. Flanking the base of the shield are a sun symbol to the left and a crescent moon to the right, both resting on a stylized lotus pedestal. The overall design reproduces faithfully the national coat of arms of the Republic of Sri Lanka.

附加信息

Sri Lanka's copper-nickel rupee was issued beginning in 1972, the year the country formally became a republic and severed its remaining constitutional ties to the British Crown — the name change from Ceylon making this the first rupee coinage struck under the Sri Lanka identity. A magnetic steel version was later introduced as a cost-cutting measure, which is what gives the non-magnetic designation its meaning: not a variety in the collector sense, but a production-era distinction with a hard cutoff.
