A circular Qu'aiti countermark approximately 15mm in diameter is applied directly over the royal effigy, bearing Arabic inscriptions identifying the issuing authority. The legend 'VICTORIA QUEEN' runs along the upper periphery of the host coin, while the countermark legend reads 'الدوله منصر' (Munsir Al-Dawla, meaning 'Defender of the State') with the Hijri date '١٣٠٧' (1307 AH / 1890 AD). The countermark is incuse-applied and clearly distinguishable from the original milled design beneath it. |
