| Obverse description | Central field dominated by bold Nastaliq calligraphy bearing the royal titles and name of the ruler Muhammad Ali Shah, King of Awadh, surmounted by a stylised crown device prominently positioned at the top of the design. The legend is arranged in multiple registers across the field, rendered in the flowing Nastaliq script characteristic of Awadh coinage. A fine dotted inner border encircles the entire design, with additional Nastaliq inscriptions filling the surrounding field. The regnal year 'sana 1' appears as part of the obverse legend. The overall style reflects the Indo-Persian artistic tradition prevalent at the Lucknow court. |
