Pellet ornaments are scattered between the lines, serving as decorative spacers in the traditional manner of Indian princely-state coinage. The legends fill the flan to its edge, leaving virtually no undecorated field, consistent with the Mughal-derived hammered-rupee tradition practiced at Tonk. |

Tonk was the only princely state in Rajputana with a Muslim ruling dynasty, established after Amir Khan — a Pindari mercenary commander — negotiated a treaty with the British East India Company in 1817. Mohammad Ibrahim Ali Khan's reign stretched from 1867 to 1930, making this a long-lived type struck across nearly two decades under a single nawab whose coinage authority survived well into the Dominion-era rationalization pressures that stripped most princely mints of their issuing rights after 1911.
