| Descrizione del dritto | The obverse displays dense, bold Arabic calligraphy in the Nastaliq script characteristic of Durrani-era Afghan coinage, with the royal legend reading 'Al-Sultan Mahmud Shah' arranged across the field in two registers separated by a horizontal decorative dividing line. The inscription is surrounded by a profusion of floral vine and foliate ornamental motifs that fill the entire field, interspersed with small pellet decorations. The Hijri regnal year 1228 appears in the lower register. The overall design, typical of hammered Kabul rupees, is executed with deep, vigorous relief giving the legends a sculptural, almost three-dimensional quality. The coin exhibits the characteristic irregular flan shape inherent to the hand-struck production method of this period. |
