| Obverse description | The obverse bears a multi-line Persian poetic legend inscribed within a rectangular cartouche, executed in bold Nasta'liq calligraphic script on a plain field. The legend eulogizes Shah Mahmoud as a world-conqueror whose coinage rises from the east of Iran like the solar disc, with the mint name Kandahar prominently featured.
