Four Hindu religious symbols — Chakra (wheel), Shankha (conch), Gada (mace), and Padma (lotus) — are positioned at the cardinal points outside the inner border within a lobed decorative frame. Above the inner circle, a crescent moon and sun flank the Sri symbol, while the Bikram Sambat regnal year appears at the base. The entire design is enclosed within a beaded outer border. |

Mahendra ascended to the throne in 1955 following the death of Tribhuvan, who had only recently reclaimed royal power from the Rana oligarchy in 1951. These coins were struck while Mahendra was consolidating authority, a process that culminated in his 1960 royal coup dissolving Nepal's first elected parliament and banning political parties entirely. The series ends in 1963, the year a new constitution formalized his partyless Panchayat system.
