Habibullah Kalakani — known derisively to his opponents as "Bacha-ye Saqao," son of a water carrier — seized Kabul in January 1929 after Amanullah Khan fled in the face of tribal revolt. His reign lasted less than nine months before Nadir Khan's forces captured and executed him in October of that year. Coins struck in his name are accordingly rare, produced in a country mid-collapse with no stable mint infrastructure.
The .500 fineness is notably debased by Afghan standards of the period, likely reflecting the resource constraints of a government that never fully controlled its own territory.
