| 正面描述 | Left-facing effigy of King George VI wearing an imperial crown, engraved in high relief with fine portrait detail. The bust is unrobed and truncated at the neck. A circular legend surrounds the effigy reading GEORGE VI KING EMPEROR in raised Latin letters, with a small dot at the lower field below the bust. The design, executed by Percy Metcalfe, reflects a refined and naturalistic portrait style characteristic of mid-20th century British colonial coinage. |

In 1946, the Royal Mint was preparing coinage for a India it almost certainly knew Britain would not keep. Independence came the following year, and this nickel pattern for the rupee was part of exploratory work on a post-war composition shift away from the silver that had defined the rupee for centuries. It was never adopted.
