Obverse description Intaglio portrait of King George VI in uniform within an oval vignette at left, printed in red on a grey-green guilloche underprint. Denomination numeral '1R' appears in each corner within the ornate lace-pattern border. The issuing authority and legal tender clause are inscribed in red to the right of the portrait, above the Governor's manuscript signature and hand-dated issue date. Printer's imprint 'THOS. DE LA RUE & C° LTD LONDON' appears at the foot of the note.
