| Obverse description | Left-facing crowned effigy of King George VI, engraved by Percy Metcalfe, wearing the Imperial State Crown adorned with fleurs-de-lis and a central cross pattée. The king's bare neck and clean-shaven portrait are rendered in a finely modelled high-relief style. The circular legend reads GEORGE VI KING EMPEROR, arcing around the upper and lower periphery of the field. The design is bordered by a continuous inner beaded rim. |

The cartouche is surrounded by an elaborate floral wreath composed of symbolic flora of the British Isles and India, including the Tudor rose of England, the thistle of Scotland, and the lotus of India, all entwined with flowing stems and foliage in high relief. The design is enclosed within a beaded inner border and a plain outer rim. |
