| Obverse description | Central field features the denomination in Sinhala script (රැපියලයි) within an ornate floral wreath composed of lotus blossoms and foliage, with the date 1957 inscribed below in Arabic numerals. The legend ONE RUPEE runs vertically along the left rim, while Tamil script (ஒரு ரூபாய்) runs vertically along the right rim, both flanking the central motif. At the top of the field, the country name in Sinhala script (ශ්රී ලංකා) arcs along the upper border. Below the central wreath, the Sinhala inscription බුද්ධ ජයන්ති (Buddha Jayanthi) appears in two lines, commemorating the 2,500th anniversary of Buddhism. The entire design is enclosed within a beaded border. |
