Additional information

Daulat Rao Sindhia ruled Gwalior through one of the most turbulent periods in Maratha history, his reign spanning the catastrophic defeat at Laswari in 1803 and the subsequent Treaty of Surji-Anjangaon, which stripped the Sindhia house of vast northern territories and forced a subsidiary alliance with the East India Company. Coinage continued under his name throughout, though effective financial and military control had shifted considerably toward British oversight by the second decade of the nineteenth century.

KM#22 was struck at the Ujjain mint during this period.
