Obverse description The field is dominated by multi-line Persian inscriptions arranged in horizontal bands across the flan, with the Nagari character 'Ra' (र) incorporated as a Maratha dynastic symbol, serving as the mint or authority mark. The AH date 1181 appears in Arabic-Indic numerals, and the imperial epithet of Alamgir II is rendered in bold Nasta'liq calligraphy. A horizontal line divides the field into two registers, each bearing portions of the legend. Small rhomboid and pellet ornaments punctuate the script throughout the field, characteristic of Maratha hammered coinage of this period.
