| Obverse description | Central field features a decorative yantra-style geometric design composed of interlocking rectangular compartments, within which the royal name and titles of King Birendra Bir Bikram Shah Dev are inscribed in Devanagari script. Auspicious Hindu symbols, including a sun, flame, and conch, adorn the four cardinal quadrants of the central motif. The Bikram Sambat date 2054 appears at the base of the central panel, divided across the lower compartments. The entire design is surrounded by a beaded inner border and a dentilated outer rim. The overall composition reflects the traditional Nepalese royal coin design aesthetic. |

Issued to promote the Visit Nepal Year 1998 tourism campaign, a government initiative designed to draw international attention to the country ahead of the fiftieth anniversary of the first Everest summit. Nepal's tourism infrastructure had expanded significantly through the 1990s, and commemorative circulation coinage was used as a low-cost promotional vehicle alongside the broader campaign. KM#1115 is frequently encountered in uncirculated condition, suggesting many were set aside by collectors rather than spent.
