| Reverse description | Central field displays a stylized royal sceptre (kharga) flanked symmetrically by two flowering rhododendron branches, all set within a circular medallion. The circular medallion is surrounded by a scalloped lotus-petal border, itself enclosed by a dotted outer ring. Devanagari honorific syllables 'श्री' are repeated in segments around the lotus border, evoking the traditional Nepalese royal honorific formula. Below the central device within the medallion, the denomination 'एक रुपैयाँ' (One Rupee) and the issuer name 'नेपाल' (Nepal) are inscribed in two lines in Devanagari script. A beaded border runs along the coin's outer edge. |

Birendra's coronation on February 24, 1975 was delayed nearly three years after his father Mahendra died in January 1972 — an extended mourning and preparation period that produced a cluster of commemorative issues dated 1974 in anticipation of the ceremony. The coin reached circulation before the event it marks actually occurred.
